When thinking of eating healthy and clean, people's minds don't directly think out dining out. If fact, most people may think that going out is a luxurious experience or a cheat meal. I am here to tell you, eating out does not have to compromise your health goals, there are a few things that you have to watch out for when you go out to eat. One of the things I always ask about when I go out to eat is the oil that is being used to cook my meal. Canola oil and Peanut oil are big NONO’s. Try an ask if the chef can make your order in extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil. These are much healthier alternatives that are full of healthy fats that will not deviate from your health goals. Another suggestion to eating healthy when eating out is to get your food “protein style”. Avoiding processed carbs such as; bread, crackers, chips and wraps is a easy way to eat healthy when going out. These things, although full of all the carbs and delicious, do tend to be set on the table causing mindless eating. We all know the feeling of going to a mexican restaurant and you finish three baskets of chips before your entree comes. This is what I like to call mindless eating because you aren't really consciously thinking about what you're putting in your body. When going out to eat you always want to ask for extra of anything if it’s free. If the restaurant offers an extra side of tomatoes on your salad, add it on. If you can ask for extra vegetables, fruits or good proteins such as eggs. Lastly, in order to eat healthy while eating out is to control your portion sizes. If your entree is extremely large, ask for a to-go box and save half of your plate for later. This helps you control your portions so you don't over eat. Now remember, going out to eat is an experience and should be treated as such. These are just a few tips when it comes to eating out, but do not let that hinder the experience of wining and dining.
